Gout Is a Systemic Disease

When your patients have gout, their excess uric acid turns into crystals. These crystals can build up throughout the body–not just in joints and bones–but in vital organs like the heart or kidneys.^1-3

Your patient has uncontrolled gout if: Oral gout medications do not lower uric acid levels enough to dissolve uric acid crystal buildup (<6 mg/dL) and gout symptoms remain, including:^4,5

• 2+ gout flares per year
• ± Visible tophi/tophus

Identifying uncontrolled gout in your patients and helping them recognize the potential consequences of their disease is critical to getting them on the right treatment path.

KRYSTEXXA is a short-term* treatment option for patients with uncontrolled gout. It works differently from oral medicines by converting uric acid into allantoin, a water-soluble substance that can easily be filtered by the kidneys.⁵
